Postive social and emotional well-being
For many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (First Nations) peoples, good mental health is indicated by feeling a sense of belonging, having strong cultural identity, maintaining positive interpersonal relationships and feeling that life has purpose and value.

When mental health and well-being are strong:
- Families feel connected to their traditions and heritage
- Children feel safe, supported and loved
- There is a sense of belonging, purpose and identity
- Relationships within the community are strong and respectful
- People feel capable of handling challenges, while maintaining hope and resilience
